Live Healthy Little Havana is working to increase physical activity in Little Havana. Regular physical activity helps improve overall health and fitness, and reduces one's risk for many chronic diseases. Physical activity helps control weight, builds lean muscle, reduces fat, promotes strong bone, muscle and joint development, and decreases the risk of obesity.
The way in which communities are designed and function can promote—or inhibit—physical activity for children and adults. The ability to be physically active in the community depends on whether the community is safe and walkable. Good sidewalks, reasonable distances between destinations, and access to structured play opportunities are all a few ways that can help improve the activity level of children, adults and older adults on a regular basis.
